Facebook Vs Twitter Vs Blog Vs Life

November 20th, 2007

With the massive new relaunch of this blog, I’ve been asking some pretty searching questions about social networking. Less “Wow, someone could steal my identity”, more “why do I bother?”. I do this blog because I’m a nerd and I’m interested in web site design stuff, and the back-end bits that pull it all together. I have no idea why I do Facebook, probably just to keep in touch with people, but I really can’t be arsed to put in the time required to decide if I want to be a Pirate or a Ninja, or receive virtual gifts from people. A virtual gift! Really! Woo.

So, I’ve added yet another blogging component, Twitter, which to me now sounds great as I only have to put in 140 characters, which is all I generally need to be able to tell people who are on the edge of their seats about my movements. In all honesty, when my mates meet up with me at the pub, that’s about all they get out of me anyway before we move onto more intricate chats about oooh all sorts of interesting topics.

To get it into Wordpress I’ve used a widget from Alex King. It’s his first Wordpress widget and does a great job, so use it yourself, and tell him he’s doing a good job.

Those on the edges of their seats will be overjoyed with my twitter movements as an RSS Feed. As will my identity thieves.
