Day 365 / 365

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

DW – Wow! That’s it! Game Over, Man! Today is our last day on the road. To summarise, here’s Jodie…

JB – Where did the time go? A whole year of adventure whizzed by us. Now the challenge is to get to JFK airport with three bags, yes I said three!!! You just can’t come to New York and not shop!

It has been a whirl-wind year with so many exciting places and crazy moments, scary border crossings, yummy food, beautiful scenery and brilliant people, I will miss it all so much, but I am very excited to come home. This has been a year of such variation and yes cheesy to say but it has also made me appreciate what I have at home, especially wardrobes and hangers…..ha ha only joking folks.

From New York City

It has been great for us to hear from all who have emailed us on the way, and a little scarey to hear our friends getting married, having babies, moving towns etc, we did think of staying away in case it was catching!! : ) Just hearing whats happening at home has made us feel somewhat not forgotten on our travels.

If anyone thought “wouldn’t it be great to travel”, then I definitely would say to you DO IT! We were surprised how easy it is to just pull up somewhere and find accommodation, how people do help you out, and how much fun it is getting it wrong and laughing about it later.

DW – What a year it’s been… we’ve done so much I can’t even get my head around it. Arriving back in the UK makes it the 14th country we’ve been to during 2006, and the strangest thing is it’s the first time we’ve been in England all year! It’s going to be awesome seeing family and friends again, and it’s been great keeping you guys updated and getting emails back from you. Not sure how people did all this travel stuff in the old days, but in the 21st century it’s not been too tricky. OK, maybe tricky at times, but generally alright.

We’re staying at Trish and Pete’s who are kindly putting up with us. We will try to get round to see everyone, but it could take a while, what with no vehicles. If you need us, best off dropping us an email and we’ll get back to you, which again could take a while, what with no mobile phone.

Anyways, see you guys soon, and thanks for following us.

Leaving England Today

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

That’s it, we’re off today. Thanks to everyone that came along last night, it was brilliant to see you all and say goodbye in a proper sitting and drinking style. I can’t think of anything now because of the small panic that none of my stuff fits in the bag, still should be ok. Next time we update we’ll be in Hong Kong – isn’t that weird!?

See everyone next year!

1 Week to go

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Unemployment in the UK rose staggeringly yesterday, both me and Jodie are now officially bums. I’ve never been unemployed before so will start slowly into it by watching Columbo all day, then hanging around Commerical Road with a can of Tennents Super, shouting at Christmas shoppers. Actually that sounds ok.

Jodie’s realised her bags too small for all the stuff she wants to take. Really, shocked faces ready…. hey I have you know it’s all very important stuff -JB.

11 Days!

Friday, December 16th, 2005

Very excited. Can’t think of anything else to put because I’m a bit sleepy now, but Coming Soon! .. probably a better update!

Updated the little map thingy on the right to take my mind off the near future no-car, no-job, no-house situation. See it here.

4 Weeks To Go

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Only four weeks until we wing our way to Hong Kong for some dimsum. Lots to do in the mean time, wedding to attend, Christmas dinners to eat, and of course we’re moving out of this place.

Jodie’s only real concern is which shoes to take, ie. which single pair she leaves behind. I’ve already managed to talk her out of taking her straighteners.

Me, I’m still trying to work out what to fill my bag with. Shorts – got. Flip flops – got. That’s pretty much that lot covered.

Getting Closer

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

Something like 14 weeks away now. I need to buy more stuff. I got a bag, that’s good. I got some shorts thats also good. Don’t know what else i need but probably some plasters. Visa’s are sorted. Jackin in work is sorted. I’m getting health checked soon so I’ll be drugged up to the eyeballs soon (legal immunity ones obviously). Apart from that I’m just sitting about and not spending anything. Yes, that’s as boring as it sounds.

Everything’s a GO!!!!

Monday, July 18th, 2005
Yep I’ve told work too, and they are already recruiting for my job, I’ll miss you too guys! Told Mum and Dad too, I think they were relieved to hear our travel plans, I have a funny feeling they were expecting some other news, fooled ya!
Now all we need are extra funds, so ebay here we come!
Only 5 months to go….keep you posted.

Told

Monday, July 18th, 2005

Told work, they’re kinda ok about it I think. Told parents, they all seem really good about the trip. Just applied for Working Holiday Visa for Oz, hopefully they’ll let us in.
